Reviews / Available Types / Collective Pitch

In collective pitch helicopters, the rotor speed ideally remains constant, and lift is varied by changing the pitch of the main blades throughout their entire rotation.

Advantages over fixed pitch helicopters:

  • better control response
  • ability to autorotate
  • ability to fly inverted

Disadvantages:

  • more complicated mechanical design
  • more fragile
